Christmas & New Year's Eve
Madeira is a region, were the population are devoted Christians, Christmas and New Year are therefore celebrated with a lot of enthusiasm. The streets of Funchal are decorated this time of year with thousands of lights in very varied colours, thus contributing to exuberant Christmas display.
Christmas brings new life to the streets of Funchal and the fireworks on New Year's Eve make Madeira a destination of choice.

The Carnival Parades
The Carnival season displays all its splendour and cultural traits of the people of Madeira. The population of this island is an example of happiness and joy, and this time reflects well these characteristics. During this time of year are two parades: The floats on Saturday Evening and the Fun Parade the next Tuesday (Carnival Day).

Madeira Flower Festival
The Flower Festival takes place in spring and has been for many years one of the greatest attractions of Madeira for both tourists and the inhabitants themselves. This great feast made up of floats that parade in the city centre, filling the air with a mixture of pleasant odours from the plants.
This festival also includes other activities such as the production of flower carpets in the streets, varied animation, traditional music and a flower show at the 'Largo da Restauração' in Funchal city centre (in front of the Tourism Bureau).
